[miningmx.com] – PATRICE Mostepe, chairman of Harmony Gold, asked for forgiveness following the deaths of nine miners at the gold company’s Doornkop mine, and said there were many questions to be answered regarding the tragedy.
Addressing the families of deceased miners at a memorial service at Doornkop on February 12, Motsepe was quoted by Bloomberg News to have said: “”We ask for your forgiveness. They lost their lives while in our care.’
He also asked why it took from 6pm, when a fall of ground caused the fire at Doornkop on February 4, to 11pm for a rescue team to reach the scene.
“If there were any failures on our part, if there were any pitfalls we should have foreseen, we are committed to rectify,’ he said.
