AMCU cleared to strike at Lonmin

[miningmx.com] – THE Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU) was given permission to strike at Lonmin after mediation over deadlocked wage talks failed, said Bloomberg News.

“Whether a strike will happen depends on what our members say,’ Jimmy Gama, AMCU national treasurer told the newswire service.

“The CCMA permit allows the AMCU’s members to stop work within 48 hours of giving the company notice. A decision on a strike would only be made next year,” Gama said.

The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration yesterday issued a certificate of non-resolution over the dispute. The certificate allows workers to strike without the risk of dismissal from their jobs, said Bloomberg News.
