Northam accepts NUM memorandum

[miningmx.com] – NORTHAM Platinum said it had today accepted a memorandum delivered to the company’s Johannesburg office by the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) following a march by the union’s members.

The march comes amid a strike over wages now into its third week at Northam Platinum’s Zondereinde mine. The NUM is demanding increases to basic salaries of 23% to 43% for core employees whilst Northam has increased its offer to 8% to 9%.

The memorandum, which Northam said it would review, was accepted by Northam financial director, Ayanda Khumalo. “The disciplined approach of the marchers and the peaceful nature of the protest,” said Northam in a statement.
