
[miningmx.com] – THE National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) was on the verge of a settlement with employers if they were able to “dig a bit deeper”, said Bloomberg News citing Andrew Chirwa, president of the union.
“If employers dig a bit deeper, there should be prospects for settlement very soon,’ said Chirwa. “We don’t think that the parties are too far apart regarding the negotiations,’ he said.
The strike that started on July 1 is costing the steel and metal industry about R300m a day, said Bloomberg quoting the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa.
