[miningmx.com] – THE Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union’s (AMCU’s) additional demands are for a R3,000 return-to-work payment, dropping criminal charges against arrested union members, and a moratorium on retrenchments, said BDLive.
The demands are in addition to an in-principle agreement signed between the union and platinum company management last week in which A and B band ‘entry level’ workers are to be awarded a R1,000 per month increase for the first two years and R950 for years three to five in a five year deal.
Speaking to BDLive, Impala Platinum (Implats) spokesman, Johan Theron, said there could be no guarantee in respect of freezing retrenchments. The additional demands represent an extra financial cost of 25% to 30%, or R1bn to Implats, Anglo American Platinum and Lonmin.
