
[miningmx.com] – SOUTH Africa’s Public Protector is to investigate reports of river pollution by the country’s mining companies including Exxaro Resources and AngloGold Ashanti, said Bloomberg News.
In an email to the newswire service, spokesman for the Public Protector, Oupa Segalwe, said: “The investigation has to do with alleged pollution of water as a result of mining operations in a number of provinces’.
The Public Protector, which is led by Thuli Madonsela, contacted the Federation for a Sustainable Environment after reading in the newspaper that it had laid a criminal complaint against the directors of mining companies including AngloGold, Exxaro and Glencore.
