Zimbabwe says gems to be sold to Govt.

[miningmx.com] – ZIMBABWE’S diamond miners have been instructed to sell their diamonds to the country’s central bank which will use them to secure a government loan, said Bloomberg News.

Citing a letter dated April 28 and which came into effect on April 30, and signed by Zimbabwe mines secretary, Francis Gudyanga, Bloomberg News said the stones would be kept by the central bank to securitise a government loan.

Gudyanga instructs the producers to “… prepare parcels of all your currently produced diamonds which must be sorted and evaluated with the involvement of the Minerals Marketing Corp. of Zimbabwe’. Payment would be made soon after, the letter said.
