Medupi to make impact end of Q1

[miningmx.com] – THE first unit of Eskom’s R115bn Medupi power project would only make its full 800MW contribution to the South African grid at the end of the first quarter in 2015, said BDLive citing a power utility executive.

“Synchronisation of a unit takes approximately three months to reach full capacity,” said Dan Marokane, head of Eskom’s capital projects division. “So we’ll get full power (from Medupi) by the first quarter next year.”

The first unit will be commissioned in December – almost a year behind schedule – with a number of welding and control and instrumentation problems having been ironed out, said the utility.
