[miningmx.com] – SOME 250 workers at First Quantum Minerals’ Kansanshi mine in Zambia would be affected after the Toronto-listed copper producer terminated a contract with Chantete Mining Services, said Bloomberg News.
“This termination is the result of significant overcapacity of the current mining fleet, in relation to mining volumes which have reduced, in line with Kansanshi’s mine plan,’ Kansanshi Mining, a unit of First Quantum, told the newswire.
Chantete was engaged to address “short-term mine development needs,’ the company said. It would try to rehire those workers at other First Quantum operations, said Bloomberg News.
