SA wage talks to kick off in mid-July

[miningmx.com] – SOUTH Africa’s gold and coal mining sectors were due to kick off wage negotiations from the middle of July said the Chamber of Mines, adding that it was crucial to establish a protocol for the talks.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, the senior executive in charge of industrial relations at the chamber, Elize Strydom said: “It is incumbent upon all of us to agree on a protocol on what we will negotiate, and what will be acceptable and won’t be acceptable conduct”.

The Chamber of Mines had received demands from four labor unions that will form the basis of the wage talks, said Strydom.
