
[miningmx.com] – THE Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) has demanded a doubling in entry-level pay for workers employed by Anglo American Platinum (Amplats), said City Press citing an article by newswire, Reuters.
This would mean underground workers would receive a minimum R12,500 monthly based on estimates that entry-level salaries are about R5,000 to R6,000/month, Reuters said in the article.
AMCU said that “on a daily basis, workers experience a declining standard of living and the dream of sharing in the wealth of the country remains a pipe dream’.
“We believe therefore that the minerals of this country must now benefit the people,’ it said.
