[miningmx.com] – ANGLO American Platinum (Amplats) said it may cut 900 head office jobs in addition to some 6,000 earmarked in terms of a wide-ranging restructuring plan, the company said in a statement.
Amplats, which is controlled by Anglo American, said on Monday that it had concluded talks with unions regarding a restructuring that will eventually see some 350,000 ounces of platinum removed from the world market.
The number of workers affected will depend on measures to ease cuts such as voluntary severance packages, early retirement and moving employees to other positions, said Bloomberg News, a wire service.
“A month’s notice period for affected employees will commence on September 1,’ Amplats CEO, Chris Griffith, said.
