
[miningmx.com] – HARMONY Gold wants its managers to visit the firm’s underground mines more frequently in order to build on the fatality-free December quarter, said BDLive citing the gold company’s CEO, Graham Briggs.
“It raises expectations in the company so much higher. You are then in a position to say we’ve done it in the December quarter, we can do it and let’s do it again and continue doing it,” Briggs told the publication.
In February last year, Harmony suffered an underground fire at its Doornkop mine which claimed the lives of eight miners. Two more miners were killed at other mines in the same week and triggered a management reshuffle at the company.
