Power, water rations restrict Botswana

[miningmx.com] – ECONOMIC growth in Botswana during 2015 would be around 4.4% – the same as last year – owing to power and water rations while mining revenue would also be down, said Bloomberg News.

Citing comments by Kealeboga Masalila, the director of monetary and financial stability at Botswana’s central bank, the news agency said economic growth slowed from 9.3% in 2013 as mining output rose at a slower pace of 4.5%.

Botswana is restricting power supply as breakdowns and maintenance at the nation’s sole electricity plant forced it to run at about a third of its capacity. The Morupule B plant is producing 220MW of power out of a capacity of 600MW, said Bloomberg News.
