
[miningmx.com] – SOUTH Africa’s government wants 70% of diamonds mined in the country to be supplied to its downstream cutting and polishing industry, said Bloomberg News citing mines minister, Susan Shabangu.
“We want to establish a complete value chain to the final product,’ Shabangu in an interview with the news agency. “South Africa is a mineral-rich country. That creates an opportunity in creating that capacity.’
Only 4% of diamonds mined in South Africa were processed locally, Bloomberg News said.
