[miningmx.com] – ZIMBABWE planned to auction diamonds mined from the Chiadzwa operation in the country’s Marange region, said Fin24.com which cited comments by Zimbabwe mines minister, Walter Chidhakwa.
Chidhakwa said the aim was to draw lessons from the Antwerp auctions and was part of an initiative to realise “huge profits” from the sale of precious stone currently exported as rough (unpolished) gems.
In a similar approach, Zimbabwe is hoping to build a platinum refinery which will produce a higher value metal rather than exporting the matte from the country to refineries in South Africa.
