Demands “written in blood”: Mathunjwa

[miningmx.com] – THE Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU) said it would not back down from demands for a minimum wage of R12,500 per month in the platinum sector.

“Our demands were submitted with blood on the mountain in Marikana,’ AMCU President Joseph Mathunjwa told protesters at the Union Buildings. He was referring to a strike at the mines of Lonmin during which at least 44 people died in 2012, said Bloomberg News. “There is no way we are turning back on it.’

A strike over wages in the platinum sector entered its sixth week yesterday (March 6) with platinum firms saying the demand was unaffordable.
