Keaton sustains H1 Vanggatfontein output

[miningmx.com] – KEATON Energy said first half production from its Vanggatfontein was level year-on-year and that it was progressing discussions to sell its anthracite mine, Vaalkrantz.

Washed 2- and 4-seam thermal coal to Eskom came in at 1.192 million tonnes (mt) compared to 1.196 mt for the half-year in the previous financial year. 5-Seam metallurgical coal sales decreased 14% to 56 156 tonnes, the company said.

Production of domestic and export anthracite at Vaalkrantz decreased to 176,089 tonnes compared to 191,898 tonnes for the comparable period.

“We have maintained our long-life cash generating Vanggatfontein asset at optimal production and efficiency levels during the period,” said Keaton Energy CEO, Mandi Glad. “The operational issues at Vaalkrantz are being addressed and we continue to move forward confidently,” she said.

Keaton said on September 29 that it had received an offer for Vaalkrantz excluding the Braakfontein project.
