Eskom returns Koeberg 1 to action

[miningmx.com] – UNIT one of Eskom’s Koeberg Power Station was returned back to normal service on June 2, returning 900MW to the national grid – a development that Eskom said would help it continue its maintenance programme without load-shedding.

“Since December last year, the availability of Eskom’s plant performance has improved from 65% to 75%,” said Brian Molefe, acting CEO of Eskom.

Unit 1 had been on planned maintenance since February in “the biggest scope of work ever undertaken at the station”, said Eskom. During these routine planned outages, one third of the used nuclear fuel is replaced with new fuel.
