Blyvoor focus of ‘urgent’ ministerial meeting

[miningmx.com] – SOUTH Africa’s mines minister, Ngoako Ramatlhodi, has called an urgent meeting to discuss the humanitarian crisis at Blyvooruitzicht, a gold mine near Carletonville, west of Johannesburg.

“The most urgent matter we must address relates to the humanitarian challenges facing those who worked at the mine and who stay in surrounding areas,” said Ramalthodi in a statement. “The meeting must come up with both short-term and long term solutions,’ he said.

Stakeholders expected to attend the meeting include representatives from the Departments of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Water Affairs, Justice and Constitutional Development, Social Development and the Merafong City Local Municipality.
