Vedanta’s Gamsberg on track for 2018 output

[miningmx.com] – VEDANTA Resources’ Gamsberg mine in South Africa’s Northern Cape province was due to produce zinc from early 2018, said Reuters in an article republished on Yahoo News.

Production from the mine would go some way to replacing diminishing output from Vedanta’s Lisheen mine in Ireland, said the newswire citing a statement from the UK-listed mining company.

“The majority of the investment, approximately $630m, will go towards developing the open pit zinc mine, concentrator plant and associated infrastructure at Gamsberg,” Vedanta said in a statement.

“The balance will be used to convert the refinery at Skorpion Zinc in Rosh Pinah, Namibia, enabling it to refine zinc sulphide concentrates from the Gamsberg Mine into special, high-grade zinc metal,” it said.
