Universal Coal readies NCC for production

[miningmx.com] – UNIVERSAL Coal said it produced 686,900 run-of-mine (ROM) tonnes from its Kangala colliery in Mpumalanga province during the third quarter.

However, the production was below planned levels owing to a reconfiguration of the pit and a greater focus on pre-stripping aimed at improving future mining flexibility.

Universal Coal had also progressed the development of its second mine, New Clydesdale Colliery (NCC) which is due to start production before the year-end.

“Having completed the acquisition of our next operation, New Clydesdale Colliery, we are excited to begin commissioning activities ahead of first production, which remains on track before year-end,” said Tony Weber, CEO of Universal Coal.

“Once New Clydesdale ramps up to Phase-1 steady-state production of 2 million tonnes a year ROM, Universal will have become a multi-mine coal company,” he said.
