Mwana Africa to re-open Bindura smelter

[miningmx.com] – MWANA Africa plans to raise debt financing that will be used to re-open Bindura Nickel Corporation’s Zimbabwe-based smelter and refinery in a development that may ease pressure to build a new refinery in the country, said Bloomberg News.

“We will finance this completely through debt,’ Mwana Africa CEO, Kalaa Mpinga, told the newswire service. “Our focus is on creating more value and we think the best way is to restart the smelter,’ he said.

The smelter and refinery, which was mothballed in 2008, will be modified to handle 100,000 ounces to 200,000 ounces of platinum concentrates a year, Mpinga told Bloomberg News.
