
[miningmx.com] – THE Zambian government has suspended operations at Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) which is operated by UK-listed mining group Vedanta Resources following an accident injuring seven miners.
The Lusaka Times said the government suspected company negligence had led to the accident, which occured on February 21. Normal hoisting activities had been suspended pending ‘detailed investigations’, said the Lusaka Times.
Mines, energy and water development deputy minister, Richards Musukwa said a study of the accident revealed there were “high levels of negligence by KCM”.
