[miningmx.com] – ROYAL Bafokeng Platinum (RBPlat) said it had no intention of mining properties in which the Mogono and Maile communities near Rustenburg in the North West province reportedly had an interest.
Responding to an article in the Business Times this week, Mpueleng Pooe, executive of corporate affairs at RBPlat, said: “RBPlat has no interest in the Klein Doornspruit and Rooderkraalspruit farms and has not submitted an environmental impact assessment, nor an environmental management amendment report concerning the two farms or for any amendment to our own mining right”.
It had been reported that the communities were opposing applications to have the properties mined through the Bafokeng Land Buyers’ Association which said it would take the matter to the Constitutional Court if required.
Pooe said there was no substance to the story, although he added that Impala Platinum may have made such an application. “Impala, however, may well have made an application concerning them [the communities], but this has nothing, either directly or indirectly, to do with the Royal Bafokeng Platinum,” he said.
