Guinea recommends stripping BSGR of licence

[miningmx.com] – GUINEA has recommended that BSG Resources and Vale, a Brazilian iron ore producer, be stripped of the licence to mine Simandou, one of the world’s largest untapped resources of iron ore, said Bloomberg News.

The newswire said a government committee had found evidence of corruption in the award of licences for Simandou’s blocks 1 and 2 and the Zogota project. “These corrupt practices tarnish and thus void the mining titles and the mining convention,’ it said.

A spokesman for BSGR, which has already denied any wrongdoing, was not available for comment while the press office for Vale did not immediately reply to an e-mail, Bloomberg News said.
