
[miningmx.com] – SOUTH Africa will begin pumping acid water from disused mines that’s threatening to flood Johannesburg, said Bloomberg News citing the Department of Water Affairs.
Pumps that will remove water from Johannesburg’s central basin will be installed in Germiston, east of Johannesburg in the next four months Trevor Balzer, the department’s acting director-general told Bloomberg News.
“We hope to get those pumps operational by October or November this year to keep the water level below the environmentally critical level,’ he Balzer.
