
[miningmx.com] – TALKS aimed at closing the rift between the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the Associated Mineworkers & Construction Union (Amcu) got off on the wrong foot at the NUM’s president, Senzeni Zokwana walked out of the meeting.
Zokwana told BDLive that NUM members were being shot in broad daylight and that people expected the NUM to just talk to Amcu. Mines minister, Susan Shabangu, and Mildred Oliphant, labour minister presided over the meeting.
Lonmin said yesterday that two people were shot – one fatally – at Wonderkop near its Western Platinum mine. Both victims were NUM members.
