Miners in Zambia to cut power up to 15%

[miningmx.com] – MINING firms in Zambia have agreed to cut power usage by between 10% and 15% to ease pressure on the country’s national grid, said Reuters citing a statement from the Chamber of Mines.

Zambian power utility Zesco is limiting power it supplies to customers, including mining companies, after water levels at its hydro-electric plants dropped due to drought. Firms will limit their power use by switching off of non-essential loads, he said.
