Wescoal signs 221kt deal with Eskom

[miningmx.com] – WESCOAL Holdings, a Johannesburg-listed coal producer, has signed a short term contract with Eskom to supply the South African power utility with 221,000 tonnes of coal from its Elandspruit operations.

This follows on short term contracts signed with Eskom in the last week of May for the supply of 190,000 tonnes of coal from Wescoal’s Khanyisa and Intibane mines.

“Longer than expected delays earlier this year, resulted in us having to enter into sub-optimal coal sale arrangements with other customers while we engaged with Eskom,” said Wescoal acting CEO, Waheed Sulaiman.

“Signing the long-term Eskom contract for Elandspruit is now at the top of our priority list, after which we will focus on Intibane and Khanyisa,” he said.
