Zim asks chrome producers to cede claims

[miningmx.com] – ZIMBABWE asked chrome mining firms, including China’s Sinosteel Corporation, to release mineral reserves to new investors, said Reuters citing the country’s mines minister, Walter Chidhakwa.

The redistribution mainly affects two companies – China’s Sinosteel Corp, which owns 80% of all chrome mining claims – and Zimbabwe Alloys. “What we are saying is that we want to have more players in the chrome sector,” Chidhakwa said.

“We are in discussions with the companies and the expectation is that we will come up with a new structure which will enable us to also begin then to allocate chrome claims to others who also want to go into the claim sector,” he told the newswire.
