
[miningmx.com] – THE Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU) has called a two-day strike from Friday at the operations of Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) in protest against 3,300 planned retrenchments at the company, said BDLive which cited the company.
Mpumi Sithole, a spokesperson for Amplats, told BDLive that the platinum miner had received a strike notice this week, adding that industrial action would result in further losses for Amplats.
The restructuring, initially thought to affect some 14,000 jobs, was necessary in order to protect “the remaining 40,000 jobs”, Sithole told BDLive.
