Mugabe rejects claims of vote rigging

[miningmx.com] – ELECTION officials allowed Zimbabweans to continue voting after the official end of polling, according to the BBC which said that there had been a high turnout leading to long queues.

The voting has taken place against a backdrop of claims and counter-claims of vote rigging and of thousands of voters being turned away because their names do not appear on the voting roll.

However, Zimbabwean president and ZANU-PF leader, Robert Mugabe, rejected claims by prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai of rival party, the MDC, that the process had been doctored.

“They want to find a way out,” the BBC quoted Mugabe to have said. “I am sure people will vote freely and fairly, there is no pressure being exerted on anyone,” he said.
