Another long-serving Eskom executive heads out of organisation

THAVA Govender, head of generation at the state-owned utility, Eskom, would leave the company at the end of October after tendering his resignation. He was in the past less than a year, according to Fin24.

Govender, who is also acting group executive of risk and sustainability at the company, had worked at Eskom for 27 years in which he served on Eskom’s executive committee and was a board member of Rotek and the Roshcon Group.

Govender is one of several high profile executives to have left the organisation this year. On October 8, Johnny Dladla, who was the head of Eskom subsidiary Eskom Rotek Industries, resigned to pursue private business interests, according a statement. Dladla was interim CEO of the company for five months in 2017.

In July, Eskom’s divisional executive for security Tebogo Rakau resigned with immediate effect. In February, Matshela Koko – a former CEO – resigned. A month later another former CEO, Sean Maritz, resigned.

Eskom’s Group CEO, Phakamani Hadebe, acknowledged Govender’s efforts in helping to stabilise Eskom and wished him well in his new endeavours. A successor would be announced in due course.
