Amplats’ numbers at least fifth higher on improved delivery

ANGLO American Platinum’s (Amplats’) restructuring efforts of the last three years stood it in good stead as it managed to produce at least a one fifth increase in basic share earnings for the six months ended June 30.

The company said in a trading statement today that the results were achieved owing to “… improved operational delivery across the company” and “… a marginally higher achieved rand basket price”.

The 20% minimum lift in interim earnings translates into an increase in headline share earnings for the interim period of R150m or 57 cents. Headline earnings and headline earnings per share in the six months of the 2017 financial year were R747m or some 285 cents per share respectively.

Amplats is due to report its interim numbers on July 23. It said there was insufficient certainty to provide specific guidance but anticipated publishing a further trading statement closer to the release of its results.
