Report on Lily Mine disaster due to be handed to DMR – Zwane

AN investigation into the Lily Mine disaster which resulted in the deaths of three miners two years ago was complete, according to broadcaster, eNCA.

Citing the comments of South Africa mines minister, Mosebenzi Zwane, eNCA said the report would be handed over to the Department of Mineral Resources. Zwane was speaking at the Mining Inbaba, a conference being held in Cape Town.

“The inquiry into the Lily mine accident has been concluded, and a report will be submitted to the department in the next few weeks,” said Zwane. “We would all agree that closure and finality are critical on this matter, especially for the families of Miss Yvonne Mini, Miss Pretty Mkambule, and Mr Solomon Nyerende,” he said.

The bodies of the mine accident remain underground after a lamp room container in which they were working was stalled up by the earth when a pillar collapsed at the mine, said eNCA in its report.
